The American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Inc. is providing information on the World Wide Web as a public service to further the not-for-profit purpose for which it was established in 1986. That purpose is to improve the quality of medical and surgical treatment available to the public by examining for professional expertise in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
To achieve this purpose, the Board:
- Has established standards of qualification for facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons.
- Has developed a mechanism to determine which candidates fulfill these standards of qualification.
- Conducts examinations of such candidates and issues certificates upon satisfactory completion of requirements.
- Improves and broadens the opportunities for graduate education and training of facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons.
The information provided on this Web site is intended for educational purposes only, to inform the public and medical colleagues about ABFPRS standards, the ABFPRS examination and certification process, and the surgeons who have achieved diplomate status with the ABFPRS. This Web site does not recommend any surgeon. Many surgeons focus on particular surgical procedures. No board certification by any board can guarantee competence in a procedure.
