LENARD MOORE


Biography

Lenard Moore, founder of the Carolina African American Writers' Collective, is one of the most lyrical poets to emerge in the late eighties and nineties. Born and raised in Jacksonville, North Carolina, Moore was educated at Shaw University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He is the author of The Open Eye (1985), Forever Home (1992), and Desert Storm: A Brief History (1993). His poems have been published in numerous journals, including Poetry Canada Review, Callaloo, Midwest Quarterly, Colorado Review, African American Review, and North Dakota Quarterly. His honors include The Haiku Museum of Tokyo Award (1983 and 1994). Currently a Teacher of English at Enloe High School, he lives in Raleigh.
