Natural Gas Producers Comment on Appointment of James Hoecker to FERC Chair

Washington, DC -- Natural Gas Supply Association President Nicholas Bush made the following statement on the appointment of James Hoecker as Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC):

"Natural gas producers are delighted to see an individual of Jim Hoecker's knowledge and experience as the new chairman of FERC. Over the past four years, he has proven to be a thought leader on the Commission, and we look forward to his forging a new consensus on FERC's many pending issues.

"Chairman Hoecker's leadership will be especially important as our industry works not just to refine but in some cases to redefine regulatory approaches that help our industry bring competitively priced natural gas to the marketplace. During the past decade, the Commission has worked hard to free the competitive parts of our industry--production, marketing, and other services--from burdensome and inappropriate federal regulation. Today, the Commission's challenge centers on the interface between those deregulated sectors and the transmission sector, which, because it remains largely a monopoly, must continue to be subject to close federal scrutiny and control.

"Jim Hoecker is an individual who can, with his fellow commissioners and the FERC staff, ensure that federal regulation supports and enhances the marketplace for natural gas."

NGSA represents producers and marketers of domestic natural gas.
