Renewables Mandates
When the U.S. Congress announced that it intended to restructure the electric industry, it said its goal was to increase competition. Many applauded this objective, believing that competition would lead to better customer service, reduced prices, and greater efficiency within the electric industry. Now, Congress threatens to impose a renewables mandate that would eliminate the savings, restrict consumer choice, reduce efficiency, and damage the environment. In short, a renewables mandate is a bad idea.
