NGSA Elects 1997 Officers

WASHINGTON, DC -- Michael E. Wiley, Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Vastar Resources, Inc., has been elected as Chairman of the Natural Gas Supply Association (NGSA) for 1997.

Wiley succeeds Raymond E. Galvin, president of Chevron U.S.A. Production Company, who served as NGSA chairman in 1995 and 1996. Galvin was honored at a dinner in Houston on Thursday night at which George Bush, forty-first President of the United States, and Kay Bailey Hutchison, U.S. Senator from Texas, spoke.

The Natural Gas Supply Association represents integrated and independent companies that produce and market domestic natural gas. Established in 1965, NGSA encourages expanded use of natural gas and a regulatory climate that fosters competitive markets. Biography of Michael E. Wiley

Michael E. Wiley

Chairman, Natural Gas Supply Association

Michael Wiley is Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Vastar Resources, Inc., in Houston, Texas. He was elected Chairman in December, 1996. He served as President and CEO from October, 1993.

In 1972, Mr. Wiley began his career with the ARCO Oil and Gas Company (AOGC) as a Junior Engineer in Lafayette, Louisiana. From 1973-1978, he was a Petroleum Engineer for ARCO International Oil and Gas Company in Los Angeles and in Copenhagen, Denmark. Beginning in 1978, he served as Senior Production Engineer and later Senior Drilling Engineer.

From 1982-1985, Mr. Wiley worked for ARCO Alaska, Inc., as Staff Operations Manager and Production Manager in Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay. He spent the next three years with AOGC in Louisiana as Production and Engineering Manager. He accepted a position with AOGC in Dallas as Manager of Planning and Evaluation in 1988.

Mr. Wiley was appointed Vice President of AOGC's Southern District in Houston in 1989. Two years later he was appointed Vice President of ARCO Exploration and Production Technology in Plano and Vice President of ARCO. He assumed the position of President of AOGC and Senior Vice President of ARCO in June, 1993.

Mr. Wiley was born in 1950. He received a petroleum engineering degree from the University of Tulsa and was awarded an MBA from the University of Dallas.
