There were many holy sites on the long road to Santiago, but Rocamadour was one of the favorites for pilgrims during the 12th through 15th centuries. It became especially popular after the discovery of the bones said to be those of Zaccheus, the publican who climbed a tree to see Jesus, and the remains of Durandel, Roland's famous sword.
