St Georges
Many hundreds of simple, beautiful churches were built in France in the 11th and 12th centuries. Their uncluttered architectural style came to be known as Romanesque, to distinguish them from the later Gothic style of Chartres Cathedral and Notre Dame in Paris. Just north of St. Emilion, we found the tiny church of St. Georges, which appeared to be closed.
