The Washington Calligraphers Guild exhibited the works of its members in conjunction with the Sumi-e Society of America at Strathmore Arts Center in Rockville, MD from July 20 to August 26, 2000. The show contrasted the direction American calligraphy has taken with the traditional "minimalist" broad brush strokes of Asian painting and calligraphy. Several pieces that were on exhibit are shown below:
