UPO sponsors activities that benefit the Washington, DC community, its citizens, along with agency staff and friends.

Foremost is the annual UPO Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast that yearly attracts more than 1000 area residents to this noteworthy event. UPO began sponsorship of the Breakfast in 1985 even before the holiday was officially designated by the U.S. Congress and signed into Law by the President of the United States.

Proceeds from the Breakfast help endow the UPO/Joseph A. Beavers Scholarship Fund, a UPO entity that provides higher educational opportunities to DC high school and G.E.D. graduates.
