Van Der Hout, Brigagliano & Nightingale is nationally known
for its legal expertise in representing individuals
before the immigration courts. We are known for taking
on challenging and complex immigration cases, exploring
innovative ways to avoid having clients found deportable
by an immigration judge, and/or developing sound legal
arguments to support a clients eligibility for
relief from removal. Various forms of relief from removal
that a client may be eligible to apply for before an
immigration judge include asylum, cancellation of removal/suspension
of removal, section 212(c) relief, adjustment of status,
and citizenship.
In addition to representing individuals before the
immigration courts, we have extensive experience in
handling appeals of unfavorable decisions by immigration
judge. (See Appeals Section).
One of the firms sub-specialties is representing
individuals that the Immigration and Naturalization
Service seeks to remove based on (alleged) criminal
activity / criminal convictions. To that end, we work
closely with many criminal defense attorneys to advise
of the immigration consequences of criminal activity,
and collaborate with them regarding post-conviction
relief where a conviction has already occurred.
