Mr. Bales was a Director of McKinsey & Company, Inc., the international management consulting firm, where he held senior level positions, including founding and leading the firm's worldwide practice in communications and media and leading the firm's practice in information technology. Mr. Bales retired in 1998 as a director of McKinsey to devote his full energies to Wicks. From 1976 to 1996, he was head of McKinsey's worldwide consulting practice in communications and media. In that capacity, he served many of the leading communications, information and media companies in the United States, Europe and Japan on a broad range of business issues and opportunities.

Mr. Bales was a member of McKinsey's Shareholders Committee (Board of Directors), Clientele and Professional Development Committee, Directors Committee (peer review evaluation committee) and Americas Council at various points in his career with McKinsey. He continues as a member of the McKinsey Advisory Council.

Mr. Bales is a member of the Board of Directors of Razorfish, Inc. (NASDAQ: RAZF), a leading digital solutions company.

Mr. Bales is a Governor and Vice Chairman of The Nature Conservancy, Vice Chairman of the Grand Canyon Trust, a trustee of the Echoing Green Foundation, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In past years, he was President of the Cancer Research Institute, a trustee of Union Theological Seminary, and a trustee of the Episcopal School in the City of New York.

Carter Bales graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and has an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
