This 100-acre
complex, located on I-95 at the Susquehanna River, includes weigh-in-motion
and static scales, five buildings (two static scale buildings, two
truck inspection buildings and one State Police barracks), access
roads, parking lots, and a hazardous material containment area.
Associated work included modification of the toll plaza to provide
one-way collection of tolls, modification of the I-95/MD 222 interchange,
and rehabilitation of the I-95 bridges over Frenchtown Road.
Our services
included site evaluation; conceptual, preliminary and final site,
roadway and water/sewer design; structural design of the buildings;
traffic analyses; wetland delineation, permit application, and coordination
with the wetland regulatory agencies; and partnering during construction.
Of special concern was an automated signal system interconnected
with the toll booths to direct truck drivers, when needed, to the
static scales/inspection buildings. Architectural and mechanical/electrical
design services were provided by subconsultants.
This project
won the 1997 "Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement - Major
Construction Project" from the Maryland Section of the American
Society of Civil Engineers.
