I-170
(now known as US 40) was intended to link downtown Baltimore with
I-70 west of the city. Although the entire project was never completed,
the 1.4 mile long section we designed was constructed, and serves
to relieve traffic in the downtown area. Our work included design
of the depressed 6-lane roadway and adjacent retaining walls,
as well as the design of the reconstruction of the parallel streets,
Franklin and Mulberry.
The
work was performed as a joint venture with Diver Brothers, who
designed the bridges.
Martin
Luther King Jr. Boulevard is a 1.7 mile long urban arterial that
runs along the west side of downtown Baltimore, from Russell Street
near Camden Yards to the south of Eutaw Street near the State
Office Complex on the north. We designed the northern third of
the Boulevard, from Saratoga Street to Eutaw Street, including
the crossing of I-170.
Martin
Luther King Jr. Boulevard received the Federal Highway Administration
Design Excellence Award.
