Most people are not aware of how educated their chiropractors are. Did you know that to practice as a chiropractor, you need a minimum of six years of specialized training?

Your Chiropractor's Education

Did You Know?

Chiropractic institutions only accept students who have completed a pre-chiropractic program of at least two years. The required courses for the pre-chiropractic education are concentrated in the sciences, similar to a pre-medical school curriculum.

Many students enter chiropractic study with an undergraduate degree in the sciences.
After completing the pre-chiropractic requirements, students must complete at least four years of academic study in an accredited chiropractic institution to graduate
To attain the privilege to practice, the graduate must pass extremely demanding national and state board exams.

In Chiropractic School...

Students study many of the same subjects that medical schools teach - anatomy, physiology, diagnosis, x-ray, orthopedics, chemistry, bacteriology, neurology, psychiatry, psychology, microbiology, pathology, etc.
For some classes which include x-ray, orthopedics, diagnosis and neurology, the minimum number of hours that are required to graduate actually exceeds the requirements imposed on medical students for the same subjects.

While the medical student concentrates on subjects like infections, diseases and the prescribing of medication, the chiropractic student specializes in the muscular, nervous and skeletal systems, spinal misalignments, soft tissue/osseous manipulation, nutrition and advanced x-ray diagnosis.

The chiropractic student begins actual, hands-on experience with real patients in the college's clinic, under the supervision of experienced chiropractors.
