Basic Stamps are a minicomputer, with
it's own operating system, RAM,
storage, processor
and I/Os. All you need to us it is a
computer "even an old 386 will work", serial cable and the free
compiler. Because of the ease of us and relative low coat for
starting makes the Basic Stamp an ideal starting step for programmable
robotics.
Beast places I found to
get this little baby is HWC and
Peter H. Anderson.
Both sell kits that include every thing you need and an OEM version witch
you need to solder, but are around $20 less. If you have a large
bread board and are not shore Basic Stamps are for you I would suggest the
HWC OEM because of the low price and it is really easy to fix. But
the OEM is much larger in size too.
A few
things that are handy to keep on hand would be LEDs, ****resisters, 9v Batteries,
2N004, 2n006, 5v converters and CDS. All of these can be found at
Digie Key and Jemeco for very little money.
