Who/What is GLSEN/DC?

GLSEN/DC is the Metropolitan Washington, DC, Chapter of the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN), which was founded in 1990 as the Gay Lesbian Straight Teachers Network, and currently has more than 70 chapters nationwide. The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is the largest national organization that brings together gay, lesbian, straight, bisexual, transgendered and questioning teachers, parents, students, and concerned citizens from all walks of life, in order to end the destructive effects of anti-gay bias in schools across the country.

The DC Chapter was founded in 1995 by a group of Montgomery County lesbian school teachers. Currently we have over 200 members and a mailing list of 1,000. We serve the Metropolitan Area of the District of Columbia, including parts of Maryland and Northern Virginia. We offer a speakers bureau, educational presentations, trainings, a quarterly newsletter, email alert list, and peer networking among other services and programs. Membership is $35 annually. GLSEN/DC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-deductible organization.

Our Mission
GLSEN strives to assure that each and every member of every school community is valued and respected, regardless of sexual orientation. We welcome as members any and all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or occupation, who share this philosphy.
