The Traveller's Bookstore is a proudly independent bookstore founded in 1982 and located in Rockefeller Center in New York City (yes, we are an actual, physical bookstore).
Whether you are in our store, calling us on the phone or browsing this website, our goal is to give you the widest range of choices available combined with our expert recommendations. Our staff is made up of experienced world travellers who have collectively used most if not all of the guidebooks we carry. We also love to read and are always happy to offer our own favorite travel memoir or fiction selection for any destination, even online: see our extensive Staff Favorites section.
The Traveller's Bookstore offers a selection of over 13,000 titles: travel guides; travel memoirs; historical and cultural background reading; even select fiction and mystery titles (a little something for the plane ride). We specialize in imports, small press titles, and books about obscure destinations. We also carry an immense array of international road and city maps; foreign language phrasebooks, dictionaries and tapes; and travel accessories such as electrical converters and travel clocks.
We do not believe that a generic list of titles, without description or personal comment, serves our customers well. Therefore we are kicking off our website with nearly 2000 fully described books, out of the over 13,000 that we stock. We have included a choice selection of the best new and classic travel books currently in print. We will continue to add to this database, but even more importantly, within the next two months we will be adding content from the books themselves and maps, tables of contents, author introductions and more. In that way, you will be able to browse online nearly as well as you would be able to in our store.
Over the years since we first opened our doors in 1982, the Traveller's Bookstore has developed a loyal corporate clientele.
