The great thing about the web is that you can find all sorts of useful and just-plain-fun stuff. And you can tell a lot about a person based on the links they favor. Here are a few of our favorites.

The CEO Refresher. Site publisher, Rick Sidorowicz, has done a first-rate job of creating a site with a wealth of valuable articles, tips, brain food and inspiration. This is one of the first places I head when I want food-for-thought on leadership and related issues vital to an organization's health. Back up to Refresher.com to surf Rick's list of inspiring quotes. All in all, an "A+" web resource.

Yogi Berra Quotes. I'm a baseball fan, so any wisdom gleaned through baseball metaphors is okay with me. Add some levity, and you've got me! Yogi Berra was a master of the witty one-liner, and this site features a good sampling.

Work911.com. An Article Indexing Directory Project intended to provide a one stop directory for finding the best articles on the web on selected topics. Find your way to top-notch articles on such topics as communication, leadership, change management and a host of other topics.

VoxCap.com. An information-hound's dream. Whether it's Bog People, school vouchers, citizen activism, Inca sacrifices or Bill Gates that fuels your passion, you're bound to find recent headlines on it here.

DogPile. First, I love the name. Second, it's a search engine that digs up a more varied pile of web resources than the more boringly named search engines. Third, it's just one more way to get more information, in case you don't have enough already.

About.Com. Formerly The Mining Company, this web portal covers many topics, from entrepreneurship to mysticism to telecommuting. Seasoned "guides" surf the web and compile resources for you, so it's a good place to visit when conducting research. One of my favorite areas, Judith Kautz's Entrepreneur section, is a great place to start. Just follow the Small-Business links.

The Intuition Network. The Intuition Network site features articles and interview transcripts on subjects that create a foundation for a well-lived life and effective, meaningful communication. Head straight for the Thinking Allowed transcripts.

The Christian Science Monitor. Top-notch writing, timely and relevant topics on culture and current events. CMS Online beats most mainstream news outlets because it doesn't climb into the gutter of raw, commercial sensationalism where the "if it bleeds, it leads" mentality runs rampant.

The Daily Onion. The online version of the very popular newspaper (and daily calendar), The Onion is a reliable resource for the funny and the absurd in the daily news genre.

Music Boulevard. If you’re like me, you love music but can’t stand buying the wrong album. Test run a tune before purchasing it (at a low cost, I might add), or read up on the latest scandal or new release from the world of rockers, rollers, rappers, raconteurs and any ol’ music rascal.

USA Today’s Weird News. You know, truth is stranger than fiction.

U.S. Masters Swimming. Burned out on your workouts or need to know where you can find a team in Topeka? Check out this mother lode of masters swimming info.

Google. The online Sherpa I need (and trust) to get almost anywhere in cyberville.

SF Giants. I've found no better metaphor for life than baseball. You play every day, whether you want to or not. And there's no better team to illustrate life's ups and downs than our very own San Francisco Giants. To paraphrase Brent Mayne, when you're in a slump, you have to focus on what you can do instead of what you're not doing. Ain't it the truth.

Howard Jones. When the student is ready, the teacher appears. Now I know why I had his early CDs when they first came out! Here's a musician who walks his talk with a funky beat.

South Park Central. You either get it or you don't. Thankfully, I do. Not only do these characters keep me laughing hysterically, their web site is that rare media creation that's actually quite good.

GoLive HQ. Adobe's web tool, GoLive, is as elegant as the Macintosh. Enough said. John May's GoLive HQ has a wealth of tips. Very cool.

Mac Fix It. In the true spirit of the internet and free flow of information, Ted Landau's "how to" help site helps all Mac users--from novice to expert--troubleshoot just about anything on their system (in the extremely rare instances when they actually have a problem).

Self Promotion. This is what the internet is all about. There's a man in North Carolina who believes that most so-called web promotion firms are ripping you off. Rather than whine, he created an automated online process where you list yourself. It's fast, informative and free. Best of all, it works. With the paid subscription, you get access to great tools to keep you in front of web surfers.
