Dear Colleague: I want to invite you to a most extraordinary event. The largest labor relations conference ever to take place in the United States will be held in Chicago, Illinois on April 7-9, 1998. The Ninth National Labor-Management Conference will feature over 68 workshops, discussion groups and keynote speakers covering issues impacting both the private and public sectors. Leading business and union officials, as well as groups representing joint efforts at Peabody Coal/UMWA, Conrail/UTU, Goodyear/USWA, Corning/AFGW, and many others will share their successes and obstacles in trying to improve the competitiveness and job security of their companies and unionized employees. We expect our audience to approach 2,000 attendees and hope that you will be one of them. The conference will focus on such topics as Interest-Based Bargaining, Welfare to Work, the High Performance Work Organization, Gainsharing, Conflictive Partnership, and using labor-management committees as an adjunct to collective bargaining. This year, the event will also include a full track on arbitration issues for both the parties as well as arbitrators. A wide range of industries including construction, steel, paper, transportation, and the service sector, as well as Federal partnerships and state and local government joint initiatives, will be highlighted. In order to attract a wide range of labor and management practitioners, government employees, arbitrators, academicians and others, the registration fee and other costs are being kept as low as possible. The hotel room rate at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Chicago is only $103.50 plus tax for single occupancy. The special conference fares on American Airlines and U.S. Airways offers you excursion discounts without a Saturday night stay over requirement. The $250 registration fee includes admission to all sessions, luncheons, and the reception at Chicagos famous Navy Pier. As this brochure went to press, the status of our keynote speakers was not finalized. Invited speakers include Aaron Feuerstein, President and CEO of Malden Mills, Boyd Young, President, United Paperworkers International Union, A.D. Correll, Chairman and CEO of the Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Labor Secretary Alexis Herman, AFL-CIO Executive Vice-President Linda Chavez-Thompson, Congressman John Porter, and Senator Carol Mosely-Braun. We hope you will join us and others from across the United States and the globe for what is sure to be a highly informative and fascinating event.
