PERSPECTIVE CONNECTION: MAINTAINING SKILLFULNESS IN TIMES OF CHANGE
You’ve got mountains of expert advice, tons of tools and bales of benchmarking data, yet something is still holding back your ability to take responsibility for the change that’s occurring and your role in that change. What’s missing? Perhaps a skillful perspective.
No external counsel will overcome a foggy or assumption-riddled perspective. And yet, a clear perspective is what sustains people through turbulent times, helping them to maintain their mindset on what’s most important rather than getting whipped around by the change environment.
To help shift into a positive perspective:
• Ask Yourself: What are you holding on to too tightly, and why?
• Take Action: Visualize yourself physically letting go of that issue, allowing it to float away and evaporate into the air.
• Ask Yourself: What’s the worst that can happen?
• Take Action: Mindmap or describe to someone what’s factual today, and what assumptions and fears you hold that lead you to your worst-case scenario.
• Ask Yourself: What is your ideal scenario?
• Take Action: List at least 10 actions that can help bring about that ideal scenario, including several that you can take (or begin taking) today or this week. Write them now in your daily planner.
