OH FREEDOM AFTER WHILE
Lynn Rubright Biography

Lynn Rubright, associate professor of education at Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri. is an award winning educator, author, speaker and professional storyteller. She helps students design creative curriculum for pre-school through grade twelve. Rubright is co-founder of the nationally recognized Metro Theater Company and the St. Louis Storytelling Festival, and established and directed Project TELL (Teaching English through Living Language) for a St. Louis area school district.

In 1989 Rubright received a Creative Artist's Grant from the Missouri Arts Council to research, write and perform a one woman show, "Oh Freedom After While", which told the story of the Sharecropper Protest of 1939 in SE Missouri. Rubright presented "Oh Freedom" as a multi- media performance piece for the Missouri Historical Society in 1991.

Although she was encouraged to produce "Oh Freedom After While" as a video, it wasn't until 1995 that Candace O'Connor and Rubright began to search for funding for this project. The script for the video documentary was written by Candace O'Connor; Rubright served as script consultant and producer. Steven J. Ross, University of Memphis School of Communications, signed on as filmmaker.
