The Institute for Research in English Acquisition and Development

"Effective Education for Language Minority Students."

.

Mission

READ is a national organization that supports research on English language learning and on effective schooling for language minority children in the United States. READ is in the forefront of the effort to reform bilingual education.

READ’s goal is to promote public discussion and informed choices by making the Institute’s findings available to scholars, educators, policy-makers and citizens concerned about the education of language minority students.

READ Institute, founded in 1989 and now a project of the Equal Opportunity Foundation, focuses on two major activities: the publication of current research studies on effective programs, and the provision of expert assistance to school districts nationwide in developing and evaluating programs for limited-English students.

Services to Schools

READ provides expert assistance to school districts across the country. The Institute offers a variety of services including program development and evaluation, staff training, curriculum design, and current research data to support program changes and improvements.

Publications

READ supports the research and publication of new studies on effective English language learning programs, produces policy reports and briefs and publishes an annual scholarly journal called READ Perspectives.
