Caterpillar, UAW Leaders Meet Again With FMCS Director
Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service Director John Calhoun Wells met today with senior representatives of the United Auto Workers and Caterpillar Inc. to discuss the principle issues in the dispute between the Peoria, Illinois-based heavy equipment manufacturer and the union, which represents approximately 13,000 workers at Caterpillar facilities in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Tennessee. "I want to commend both parties for their willingness to meet with me a second time to review these outstanding issues," said Wells. "We had a useful session with a frank and open exchange of views." Dr. Wells said he would continue communicating directly with UAW Vice President Richard Shoemaker and Caterpillar Vice President of Human Services Division Wayne Zimmerman. However, no dates or locations have been set for future meetings. |
