Kaiser Hospitals and California Nurses Association Negotiatorsto Meet with Federal Mediators October 30 in Oakland
Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) Director John Calhoun Wells has asked representatives of Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and the California Nurses Association (CNA) to meet with federal mediators Thursday, October 30 at FMCS offices in Oakland. The participants in Thursdays meeting will explore a framework for an agreement between Kaiser and the nurses association. Full negotiations will resume on Friday, October 31. CNA, representing approximately 8,000 nurses at 54 Kaiser hospitals, clinics, labs and administrative offices in Northern California, has filed a ten-day strike notice with FMCS and announced plans for a one-day walkout on Monday, November 10. FMCS Deputy Director Richard Barnes will join Commissioners Phyliss Cayse of Los Angeles and Gary Hattal of Oakland in facilitating Thursdays meeting and in mediating subsequent negotiations. |
