THE POWER OF A HANDWRITTEN NOTE

Situation: You send special "thank you" messages via email

February 14th – Valentine's Day – is one of the few days that seems to inspire people to forgo e-mail, pager and telephone in favor of penning some heartfelt thoughts that show sincere regard for the recipient. While we applaud this tradition, we’re saddened by the thought that the handwritten note is becoming a practice reserved only for one or two days a year.

This scarcity makes it an even more important communication vehicle, and we’d like to suggest that you consider giving it a special niche in your toolkit. The handwritten note gives its recipient a powerful message – that you took the time to pick up a pen, compose some thoughts and set them down in your own handwriting for all the world to see. Maybe you even hand-addressed the envelope! In today’s busy-busy electronic world, your efforts symbolize the utmost in caring.

Tip – Send handwritten notes more often

For example, you might create a congratulatory or "job well done" note. Let a client know you appreciate their business – your personal handwriting will give it extra meaning. Scribble a "thinking of you" missive to a friend – amid her bills and junk mail, which envelope will be the most eagerly opened?

Try taking pen in hand for a change - letting your thoughts flow onto paper will help you to create a distinctive – and remembered – communication style.
