July is American Music Month on KCSN!!

Throughout the month, we focus on works by American masters in every genre. Listen for a major symphonic work at 10:00 on the Morning Symphony. At 2:00 p.m., Mara's Muses will feature chamber music by American composers. And in between and all around a generous helping of American sounds.

While we have built on the success of our Bluegrass shows and now present a full survey of American folk idioms on weekends, weekdays also exemplify our commitment to American music and composers. Geoffrey Fontaine has begun hosting a program (American Mosaic, Monday evenings at 9:00 p.m.) that interweaves the various threads of American genres, from classical and jazz to musical theatre and the Classic American Songbook. On Madly Cocktail and The David and Peter Show you always hear a good helping of great singers and song. From Listening to Movies to our Film Day Fridays, you'll delve into the work of some of today's most respected composers.

November 14th will mark the centennial of the birth of Aaron Copland, but we start celebrating this summer. All July we'll feature new recordings of Copland: The Populist, The Modernist and The Tender Land. Also, this American Music month KCSN will present a special package of American folk hero Woody Guthrie.

I'd like to invite you to join us this summer at the Hollywood Bowl for The Great American Concert with Fireworks! On Friday, August 11, our very own Riders in the Sky (Riders Radio Theatre) meet up with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra for an evening of music from Broadway, westerns, and the concert hall, and a brand new fireworks display dedicated to the Lone Ranger.

The entire staff at KCSN would like to wish you a relaxing summer, hopefully with some vacation time and your transistor radio set to KCSN close by. We'll be here for you whenever you tune in.

Hi-Ho Silver, away!

René Engel General Manager

p.s. The 100th anniversary of Louis Armstrong's birth is the 4th of July. Happy birthday, Satchmo.
