Lights, cameras, music! The very visual medium of the movies wouldn't be much to look at without music. Even silent movies were never really soundless. A film's score or soundtrack helps bring it to life - whether it adds tension to a scary moment, ups the speed of a car chase, or heats up a love scene. Now, film music can score your Monday nights, filling it with romance, suspense, drama or humor - and usually a little bit of everything. Hosted by Elizabeth Lamers, the show is an eclectic mix of lush orchestral scores, alternative songs and pop singles used in movie soundtracks. It features the work of today's most exciting composers who have found film to be one of the last great bastions of symphonic music. From Spielberg to Kurasawa, from classics to current blockbusters, from indie favorites to foreign jewels - Elizabeth features music from more films than can fit in your local multiplex. Movie music does more than remind you of a favorite film, it transports you to different places, stirs emotions and captures the imagination just like the best films do. So tune in to Listening to Movies and you'll hear that there's a lot more to the movies than meets the eyes. Popcorn is optional. Mondays, 7-9 p.m.
Elizabeth Lamers
Elizabeth Lamers, host of Listening to Movies, grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and came to California "as soon as she heard about it." California has been hearing a lot of Elizabeth ever since. A popular vocalist, she has performed in L.A.'s greatest venues, including The Hollywood Bowl, The Greek Theater, UCLA's Royce Hall, and the Universal Amphitheater. She was a featured performer with Linda Rondstadt and Nelson Riddle, and has toured the world, appearing at the most renowned concert halls, from the Royal Albert Hall in London to Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Elizabeth not only sings, but writes music, as well. She has written songs for three albums which have gone platinum, and won the 1997 Ivor Novello Award (the English Grammy) for Best Song of the Year. The UCLA grad is a sought-after voice-over artist, too. She has given voice to characters on cartoons featuring Animaniacs, Batman, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, Freakazoid, Histeria and The Big Cartooney Show. From Royce Hall to the Batcave, Elizabeth's voice runs the gamut, but every Monday she can be heard right here on KCSN as host of Listening to Movies.
